Catherine and Marion at National Finals at Northfield

The Scottish National Bowling Championships began at Ayr Northfield, the national centre for bowling, last Wednesday and Campbeltown Bowling Club was represented in the ladies’ section by Catherine McEachran and Marion Reid in the pairs competition. They opened their account in the first match with a twenty shot win over Moray BC and followed this up with a close two shot victory over Burnbank Hamilton BC to progress to the last eight. Anyone who studied the quarter final draw would have done so with trepidation as it held four previous winners of the title and unfortunately for Catherine and Marion they were drawn against twice past winners, Invergordon BC. The loss of seven shots in the first end proved to be a handicap that they were unable to overcome and they eventually ended the match with an eleven shot deficit. It was unfortunate that Catherine and Marion, who had played so well, were allocated a rink and green that neither could ‘catch’ but they should be rightly proud of their achievement to progress so far, as the club members most definitely are.

Congratulations to you both, you have done the Club proud. One lesson that can be learned is that club's from 'wee toons' need fear no one as you and Invergordon have proved.
